How would one react if he loses his job at the peak of his career- disheartened, disappointed, depressed? Well, Shubhabrata Samantaray, a geoscientist based in Malaysia, did otherwise. He went on to develop an AI-blockchain-extended reality-based intellectual engagement platform to solve sustainability-related challenges.
In a freewheeling chat with The Blue Circle, IIT Alumnus Shubhabrata Samantaray, Founder and CEO, Enheroes Global Energy discussed his idea behind venturing into the digital energy space, the challenges during the journey and the importance of technology in embracing sustainability.
Jobless but not Dispirited
The year was 2016, Samantaray was working with an oil-based company in Malaysia. The oil prices crashed and he along with his many fellow geoscientists were left without jobs. After failing to find any other opportunity, he decided to take the baton himself and planned to create jobs for other intellectuals.
In his quest to be an entrepreneur, he took the route of sustainability. While working on his research, he found the theory of ‘intellectual sustainability’ which led to the birth of Enheroes.
“I felt that the world needs an operating or a management system to make the world a sustainable place,” shared Samantaray.
To equip himself with the fundamentals of designing products and services, Samantaray enrolled himself with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for a course in Innovation of products and services. Parallelly, he studied Entrepreneurship from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Rohtak. Meanwhile, he ensured that he was up-to-date with the latest technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT).
While Samantaray was busy educating himself, job offers started pouring in but he decided not to enter the corporate world again and continued to build his product.
His startup Enheroes, is a global platform for energy intellectuals, to seek engagement in solving sustainability-related challenges using innovation, technology, ideas and management tools.
The digital energy platform is based on the premise of shared value innovation as the current corporate models lack an intelligent decision-making system.
The product is expected to launch by end of the year and the pre-launch events with early stakeholders are scheduled for next month. Alongside, the startup is also in talks with investors for raising funds.
The One-of-a-kind Product
“I define Intellectual Sustainability as enabling unrestricted and equal opportunity access for learning, earning, innovating, and starting-up,” said Samantaray.
He has created CISMS (Collective Intellectual Sustainability Management System), an AI-based arrangement that gives solutions for new working models or sustainable management frameworks that make organisations stronger through the use of data analytics.
It uses a AI-blockchain extended reality system called DRL-EBNN, which is a hybrid class of goal-oriented ensemble neural networks, strengthening human-machine interaction using natural language processing (NLP). The software works as an operating system that manages integrated platforms autonomously. Once a user logs into the systems, the system learns his behaviour and creates optimised cohorts where the user can find activities and modules as per his need. This is the underlying principle.
The product can be accessed on a membership basis both by an individual and corporations. Samantaray calls it a ‘co-benefit’ approach as everyone in the ecosystem will benefit from it.
The platform also makes use of blockchain for automation. For instance, during a summit, if an investor pitches an idea or an investment option, through AI and blockchain the entire process can be completed even before the event ends.
Samantaray filed a utility patent for the product that got validation for its novelty, inventiveness and industrial application by an internationally reputed patent law-firm. He claims this to be the first-of its kind in the segment.
Decoding the Product
“We are taking a new kind of approach where we are offering our services in a SaaS format over an OTT (Over-The-Top) platform” says Samantaray.
SaaS is primarily designed for the corporates to use it internally. The focus is to enhance intellectual productivity by effective engagements. As per the need of the client or the company, AI learns from the activities and develops programs and suggests effective and better engagement activities. The system is built with some standard templates but clients can get them customised too.
“OTT platforms are confined to entertainment, so I thought of expanding this idea to intellectual space,” said Samantaray. Adoption of OTT by corporates will eliminate the need for a system or a hardware configuration. The modules and conferences could be accessed anywhere anytime without a mandatory framework.
The software comes with multi-factor authentication that allows users to access their accounts via several modes like retina, biometric and facial recognition. To avoid cyber-security threats, the company has cyber-security consultants to protect them from third-party infiltrators.
For a Better Future
Enheroes is planning to make Digital collaboration with some of the top knowledge institutions in the world like MIT, Stanford and INSEAD with whom they find synergy in their way of using Digital Energy as a Force for good and having ready to deploy customized executive programs on Tech-Entrepreneurship, Social Innovation and Leadership.
Samantaray has also started a student sign up facility to educate, enable, empower and engage the students to prepare them for a better future. The company is trying to make this scheme independent of any cost-strata.
According to capabilities and capacities, the systems will suggest work and internships to students where their projects will be mentored by leading professionals of the respective companies. This will help them to acquire advanced skills under professional guidance and bridge the gap between graduating and being employable.
“I want to build a leadership development academy to train my team and interested youngsters about sustainability,” shared Samantaray. “Getting sustainable energy at affordable prices should be the objective for the next-generation,” he concluded.
